Endurance, strength, agility, balance, and flexibility equates to a healthy body and a happy mind according to personal trainer Ali von Moltke, and upon meeting her it is clear to see she practices what she preaches. Her slim, athletic build coupled with her enthusiastic demeanour screams health and vitality. You wouldn’t believe she is 51 years old!
Ali is the Chief Instructor and founder of Fit + Fast – personal training for all ages and fitness levels. Moving to Mallorca from India at the end of 2016, she embraced all the island has to offer in terms of wellbeing and fitness, and has combined this passion with her work, delivering customised training programs to locals, yachties, and visitors from abroad alike.
Ali is a fully qualified personal trainer with qualifications from the American Council of Exercise (ACE), the National Federation of Personal Trainers (NFPT), and the International Fitness and Aerobics Academy (IFAA). She loves to embrace many sports and movement patterns, and is experienced in various martial arts, Pilates, and regularly competes in running races, triathlons and obstacle races.
“Though martial arts I’ve learnt discipline and enduring pain, through running I’ve learnt perseverance and meditation in movement, through obstacle course racing I’ve learnt to overcome fear and became stronger mentally and physically”.
Taking advantage of the fantastic Mallorcan terrain and weather, Ali conducts the majority of her training sessions with clients outdoors. Experiencing the endorphin rush from movement, combined with a surge of vitamin D from the sunshine is amazing for the body and soul, and a great way to escape the rigidity of your typical gym. Taking it outdoors Ali incorporates trail running in the mountains, sessions in the park, beach workouts, and brings her own collection of fitness equipment to keep things varied and interesting.
Ali offers one-on-one training, partner workouts (‘buddy packages’), and small group training sessions. Workouts can be comprised of high intensity interval training (HIIT), resistance training, cardiovascular training, and core training, all depending on what your goals are. She can even teach you trail running, or guide you on a mountain run if that piques your interest.
Customising her clients’ workouts is key to Ali. What’s right for one person may not be suitable for another, and similarly what’s right for an individual client week to week changes too. For example, you might turn up to your session after a sleepless night, a stressful day at work, and experiencing PMT symptoms. Ali will adjust to these external factors and your energy, by perhaps taking you on a long gentle walk, and being a sounding board. The main thing Ali wants is for you to show up for yourself and she will do everything she can to make this achievable.
A personal passion of Ali’s is OCR training (obstacle course race training), and she regularly participates in these gruelling events not for the faint hearted. As such she is the perfect person to assist you in your training in the lead up to OCR events, such as the upcoming Spartan Race here in Mallorca on 7-8 March 2020. Her experience with this global event is hard to beat, as she personally competes in the hardest of the Spartan trifecta challenges – the ‘Beast’ course which covers a half marathon distance (23km) with 30 obstacles along the way.
Holistic, Systematic, Individual
Motivating and inspiring people is Ali’s passion. Her clients come in all shapes and sizes, ages, with totally different levels of fitness, and different health histories and backgrounds. Even if you have injuries or health limitations you can train with Ali on a one-to-one basis to learn to train injury free and improve your condition through exercise. The commonality among her clients is the wish to improve themselves, and the willingness to work hard. For Ali, learning what each individual person needs to even out weaknesses and help reach new levels of energy is the goal.
“I love watching my clients’ transformations, I love my active outdoor life, I love talking to all the awesome people who are willing to put in some hard work to be healthy and fit. It’s the best job in the world to me!”
Ali also recognises that diet is as important as training, if not more so. Along your fitness journey she can assist you with your nutrition, helping you achieve optimum health and fuelling your body correctly for your training. Ali doesn’t believe in completely overhauling your diet so that it is unrecognisable, but in making small incremental changes that are sustainable.
For Ali the prescription is simple. Train hard, sleep well, eat clean and be happy! This is what she embodies, and this is what she so enthusiastically shares with her clients.
“Fitness is my lifestyle, my philosophy, my escape, my soulmate, and certainly my source of energy.”
