Health food bars can be a great snack when you hit that 3.30pm slump, need an extra boost post-workout, or can feel your ‘hangry’ coming on. But we tend to fall into that trap where we think any energy bar is a healthy bar, and that is very often not the case. What’s more, the taste can leave a lot to be desired. The struggle to find something that tastes good and doesn’t contain more sugar than an iced doughnut is all too real.
This is where Ziggaru energy bars come in.
A journey that began in the kitchen
The Ziggaru journey began two years ago in Rebecca Jessop’s kitchen, as an idea to curb the crisps and chocolate and instead nourish her family and friends with something wholesome and made entirely from natural ingredients. As a mum of three with an active family, snacks that refill the energy reserves are a must. Whether hiking mountains, sailing, or cycling, Rebecca found her energy bars were keeping them all going. Soon the crew members on the yacht her partner works on were clamouring to get their hands on the bars too, and Rebecca had a lightbulb moment that this could be a viable business.
Rebecca got to work to develop a range of healthy energy bars that were nutritious, filling and tasty. Her home became her test kitchen, brimming with with jars and boxes full of nuts and seeds, and all manner of dehydrated fruits and vegetables to trial. The fun part was playing around with flavours and trying them out on her friends and family. Even her Pilates group were quite happy to be roped into taste testing duties. It wasn’t long before she had perfected a snack she delighted in sharing with family and friends.
4 delicious flavours
The Ziggaru range was whittled down to 4 flavours that tantalised the taste buds.
- Pear & Ginger
- Mango & Vanilla
- Apple, Beetroot & Turmeric
- Banana, Strawberry & Cinnamon
All the flavours are a hit, with Rebecca’s personal favourite being the pear and ginger with actual pieces of dried ginger mixed in. Her children love the apple, beetroot and turmeric, a flavour inspired from Rebecca’s signature birthday cake recipe which is decadent chocolate and beetroot. Here at Nourish we can attest that all of the flavours taste and smell heavenly!
Contains only good-for-you ingredients
Ziggaru bars boast an exceptionally clean nutritional profile. The base ingredients you’ll find across the range are pistachios, chia seeds, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, lemon zest and lemon oil.
Unlike most snack bars on the market, Ziggaru doesn’t use dates to bind and sweeten the bars but uses brown rice syrup instead. Naturally made with no additives or preservatives and with a lower glycemic index than many other sweeteners, the result is a healthier bar that isn’t sickly sweet. The bars are also grain free, with the bulk instead coming from nuts and seeds. There is a long list of ingredients, but they are all superfoods. The bars are blended with nourishing nuts, seeds and dried fruit, providing natural energy, and are rich in omega3, magnesium, zinc, iron, selenium, calcium, phosphorus, manganese, potassium, vitamin b3 (niacin) b1 (thiamine) b2, vitamin e, and vitamin c.
Bars for anyone, anytime
The great thing about Ziggaru bars is that they are a universal bar for anyone anytime. They are perfect for hikers and cyclists, as a general pick-me-up snack, or to take on your travels instead of grabbing that unhealthy sandwich at the airport. They sustain you and provide you with natural energy, and kids love them too. “My son had a sleepover and they were all diving into the box to grab them”, says Rebecca.
The Ziggaru philosophy
“Believe in yourself anything is possible. What you eat reflects your body’s harmony and mood!”
